It's Salute to the Military Night at Port Royal this evening. Military members, past or present, need to present proof of service at general admission ticket lines to be admitted free of charge. Many area race fans have their eyes on Williams Grove Speedway this weekend. The annual Summer Nationals program got underway last night. The events are sanctioned by the World of Outlaws.Current Outlaw favorite Donny Schatz entered competition with 15 wins in the series. Month of money begins in earnest with big races locally, nationally

It's a busy weekend in dirt track racing with a variety of special events.Port Royal Speedway has the late models competing tonight in the Tri Star Sizzler 30-lap feature event with an added purse; 410 and 305 sprint cars also are on the program.In addition to great racing, Port Royal hosts Juniata County Rescue and EMS night this evening. It's been a tough week in the region for auto racing.Speedweek came and went. Danny Dietrich broke out of a slump winning two of the last three speedweek events. In the process Dietrich managed to bump Greg Hodnett off the top of the speedweek points, denying him another title. That should have been the main story. Someone asked me late in the season, when was the last time Belleville, Lewistown, Reedsville and Yeagertown were not in one of the final three spots when a season ended.That's a good question. Remebrer over the last half century, the four teams have racked up 2,429 wins against 1,459 losses.
