Extensions the talk of media days

While details are still being worked out on a new contract for football coach James Franklin, Penn State has signed wrestling coach Cael Sanderson to a long-term deal. Athletic director Sandy Barbour revealed that news Tuesday at Big Ten media days in Chicago. Barbour did not discuss details of Sanderson’s contract, such as length or salary, but an extension was a foregone conclusion since the coach has led PSU to six national championships in the last seven years. “What Cael and our wrestling program has done has been absolutely spectacular,” Barbour told reporters in ...

Racers enjoyed Speedweek, looking to the future

Sprint Car Speedweek has come and gone. Nine of 10 events were completed this year. Lucas Wolfe won the overall Speedweek title for the third time in his career. The event is truly a national and international event with racers attending from Australia and the West Coast of the United States. NASCAR star Kyle Larson won three races. Washington state drive Trey Starks drove Scott Gobrecht’s racer to victory at Williams Grove. Rico Abreu made the trip from California and won the finale at Selinsgrove. Speedweek wrapping up as Selinsgrove honors Opperman, Bogar

The 27th annual Sprint Car Speedweek is coming down the home stretch this weekend. Port Royal Speedway hosts tonight for the PA Posse racing stars. A 30-lap sprint car feature pays the winner $5,000. The Route 35 late model challenge series is back for round three in a 25-lap, $2,000 to win event. Coleby Frye holds a slight lead over Chad Hollenbeck in the late model challenge. Sprint Car speedweek is here! Ten days of racing began last night at Williams Grove Speedway. Port Royal Speedway is dark this evening as Lincoln Speedway hosts the first of two shows this week. Sunday, Fred Rahmer puts on his promoter cap at Path Valley Speedway as the 410 cars make their first appearance there this season. The World of Outlaws invasion of Central Pennsylvania continues this evening at Williams Grove Speedway. Race time is set for 7:30 p.m. After the racing program, there will be a fireworks show.
