LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Cal Ripken League had a very successful weekend in the District 13 playoffs as all four teams advanced to the state playoffs. The 9-year-old-and-under team went 3-0 as they defeated Perry County, 18-14; Juniata County, 16-4; and Perry County, 14-2, to win the title in the championship game. EUGENE, Ore. – Rising sophomore Nolan Carey of the Penn State track and field team earned a spot on Team USA for the World Under-20 Championships after winning the USA U20 javelin title Thursday afternoon at Hayward Field. Carey claimed the national title with a throw of 66.38m. Carey recorded the mark on his second attempt in the preliminary round, and it remained unbeaten through the final.
