‘Speed Palace’ cancels USAC event

PORT ROYAL — After a rain delay, practice and qualifying was underway Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway when more rain fell cancellingvthe program.

The first shower hit and delayed the start of the USAC Eastern Storm

racing program. The track crew got the racing surface ready to go

again around 9 p.m.

The USAC Sprint cars completed warm-ups and qualifying with track

records falling on the lightning-fast surface thanks to the rain. USAC

National point leader Kyle Cummins was the fastest of seven drivers to go under the old mark. His lap was 17.985 and will stand since the

entire session was completed. The old record was 18.105 set in 2019 by CJ Leary.

The 410 sprints completed warm-ups as well with Steven Snyder Jr.

having the quickest lap at 15.867.

The USAC Silver Crown cars were practicing when the second shower hit, ultimately ending the night. The Silver Crown cars were about 1-second under the existing track record.

Port Royal is in action Saturday night featuring the Blue Collar

Classic for the 305 sprint cars with limited late models and wingless

super sportsman also in action. Racing starts at 7. Officials have

reduced general admission prices to $10 for adults for the race. It

will also be Military Appreciation Night with all active duty and

veterans receiving free general admission with proper identification.

The speedway hosts Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek races on

Wednesday, July 1, and Saturday, July 4.

RACING RECAP

Freddie Rahmer held off Troy Wagaman Jr.’s final turn charge to win

the sprint car feature Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway. They

raced side-by-side down the frontstretch to the checkered flag. It was Rahmer’s first Grove win of the season, and 20th of his career there.

Wagaman finished second maintaining a comfortable championship points lead. Chase Dietz, Lance Dewease and Buddy Sweibinz completed the top five.

California native Mitchel Moles won the USAC sprint feature at the

Grove over Justin Grant, Brady Bacon, Cummins and Pennsylvania’s own Briggs Danner.

Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., remains undefeated in regular shows for the late models at Selinsgrove Speedway as he won again Friday night giving him four. The only race he didn’t win was against the World of Outlaws in May. Rick Eckert, Hayes Mattern, Dylan Yoder and Jeff Rine completed the top five.

Shaun Miller won the limited late model feature at Selinsgrove. Jaxton Garman, Ryan Zook,

George Dixon and Casey Steinhoff completed the top five. Troy Miller, Shaun’s father, won the street stock feature.

Dietz, of York, won his sixth sprint car feature of the season at

Lincoln Speedway Saturday night in the Kramer Williamson tribute race. Wagaman, Rahmer, Austin Bishop and Bill Dietrich completed the top five.

SPRINT CAR SPEEDWEEK

The 36th edition of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek starts Friday at Williams Grove Speedway followed by the Kevin Gobrecht Memorial Saturday at Lincoln Speedway, and the finale of the first weekend at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday. More prize money is up for grabs this season than ever before during Speedweek. Anthony Macri has won the last three Speedweek championships. He’s still recovering from a broken back suffered at the Grove earlier this season.

The Steve Smith Tribute Race will be held at Lincoln Speedway on

Monday, June 29, and pays $50,019 to win. From Lincoln, the series

moves to Grandview Speedway, near Pottstown, Tuesday night.

Port Royal’s first Speedweek race is Wednesday night, July 1. The

teams head South to Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway for the Thursday night race. The Grove hosts the $20,000 to win Mitch Smith Memorial on Friday night, July 3. Its back to Port Royal for the Greg Hodnett

Classic on Saturday, July 4. Selinsgrove hosts the finale this year on

July 5.
