Rivas homers as Curve beat Senators

HARRISBURG – Infielder Javier Rivas became the fifth Curve hitter to reach ten homers this season in an 8-4 win over the Harrisburg Senators on Sunday afternoon at FNB Field. Altoona scored two early runs on bases loaded walks in the second and built up a 5-2 advantage after five innings. Rivas slammed a solo homer to lead off the fourth inning for his tenth round tripper of the season. Easton Carmichael added an RBI triple in the fifth and Will Taylor brought him home with a single back through the middle. The 52nd running of the Big Valley Invitational Cross Country meet will take place at the Indian Valley Elementary Center today with the race starting at 9 a.m. Junior High runners will start and JV boys run at 9:30, varsity girls at 10, varsity boys at 10:30 and JV girls at 11. The meet began over 50 years ago by Kish cross country coach Bill Solova and the Rotary Club of Lewistown, which still helps sponsor the race, along with the Juniata Valley Striders Running Club. UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State Nittany Lions (2-1) secured the team’s second win and second shutout of the 2026 season over the Villanova Wildcats at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex on Friday afternoon, 2-0. Penn State has now recorded shutouts in back-to-back games. Senior captain Natalie Freeman led all Penn State players with five shots and three points while Joji Purdy scored off a penalty corner for the second straight game.
