HARRISBURG - Infielder Javier Rivas became the fifth Curve hitter to reach ten homers this season in an 8-4 win over the Harrisburg Senators on Sunday afternoon at FNB Field.
Altoona scored two early runs on bases loaded walks in the second and built up a 5-2 advantage after five innings. Rivas slammed a solo homer to lead off the fourth inning for his tenth round tripper of the season. Easton Carmichael added an RBI triple in the fifth and Will Taylor brought him home with a single back through the middle.
On the mound, Altoona sent six different arms into the game to cover the win. Jarod Bayless earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief across the fourth and fifth inning with three strikeouts. Tyler Owens and Justin Meis combined for 2.2 scoreless frames of relief to wrap up the victory with Aaron Shortridge tossing 1.1 innings.
Altoona drew five walks and picked up eight hits in the win, led by Rivas' home run and two singles. Camden Janik drove in a pair with a 1-for-4 day at the plate.
Curve pitchers Po-Yu Chen, Cristhian Tortosa, Bayless, Owens, Meis and Shortridge combined for 13 strikeouts in the win.
Altoona returns to PNG Field on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. to begin their final series of the season against the Akron RubberDucks. LHP Connor Oliver is slated to start the series opener for the Curve with RHP Braylon Doughty on the mound for the RubberDucks.
