Attick Sr. inducted into State Babe Ruth HOF

LEWISTOWN — Don Attick, Sr. will become Mifflin County’s 20th member inducted into the Pennsylvania Babe Ruth Hall of Fame later this year, Keith Baker, president of the Mifflin County League, said in an announcement made on Sunday.

Attick had two jobs in the local Babe Ruth world. He was District 7 commissioner from 1979-91 and also an assistant coach in Reedsville.

During his district administration, District 7 won six state titles. Mifflin County won five state titles, 1981, 1987, 14-15-year-olds and three 13-year-olds, 1983, 1987 and 1990. Mount Union won the 14-15-year-old state championship in 1990. In 1987 and 1990, District 7 swept the state by winning both state titles.

From 1979-91, there were 11 leagues that came and went in District 7.

Attick also was an assistant coach in Reedsville from 1969-1974 and 1977-1979. He helped Reedsville win three league titles, 1969, 1971 and 1978. He also was an assistant coach on two All-Star teams, 1978, 13-year-olds and the 1979, 14-15 year-olds. The 1979 team finished in the Pennsylvania Final Four (fourth). He coached in a total of 161 regular-season and All-Star games.

He is the fourth person from the Reedsville Babe Ruth franchise to be inducted into the Pennsylvania Babe Ruth Hall of Fame. Other members from Reedsville are Bob Reigle, Scott Reigle and Bob “Woody” Woodard.

Mifflin County leads all leagues in the state with 20 members. West End of Williamsport has nine members and Phoenixville is third with six. The Pennsylvania Babe Ruth Hall of Fame was started in 2000 and has 55 members.
