Altoona topples Mifflin County on the track

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County competed against Altoona at their home track on Tuesday. Both Husky teams (girls and boys) lost to the Mountain Lions, but the boys kept the final score within a five-point margin.

Taylor Kenepp had the only first-place finisher for the girls team in the 400 with a time of 1:01.53. The Huskies were able to grab a few second-place finishes from Reagan Sheetz (100H, 18.50), Kendall Cavanaugh (discus, 90′ 7″), and Taylor Kenepp (100, 13.12 and 200, 26.89). Rounding out the scoring in third place were Abigail Riden (100H, 18.69), Liberty Cook (1600, 5:59.68), Reagan Sheetz (300H, 53.44), Ava Kratzer (800, 2:35.89), Kendall Cavanaugh (Javelin 97′ 6″) and Mia Coffey (13:10.04).

For the Husky boys team, seven of the Huskies captured nine first-place honors with Nevin Farley (100, 11.87 and long jump, 20′ 0″), Reece Bell (javelin, 172′ 1″), Carter Smith (1600, 4:42.20), Dekker Pietzsch (shot put, 42′ 10″ and discus, 109′ 6″), Trevan Diven (400, 52.95), Hoyt Rodenbaugh (800, 2:07.09), and Aiden Scavitti (3200, 10:41.22). Both the 4×800 (Aiden Scavitti, Zaiden Dashem, Hart Oden and Connor Lynch – 8:35.83) and the 4×100 (Kaleb Grant, Jack Suydam, Winston Yetter, and Nevin Farley – 46.60) captured the win from Altoona. Jack Suydam (Javelin, 132′ 5″), Wyatt Kauffman (1600, 4:45.35) Camryn Treaster (400, 53.89), and Koy Aurand (800, 2:09.87) finished second in their events. Scooping up the third-place finishes were Landon Yetter (110H, 20.19), Reese Cubbison (1600, 4:45.73), Luke Bender (High Jump, 5′ 4″), Winston Yetter (400, 55.91), Nevin Farley (200, 23.75) and Zaiden Dashem (3200, 10:56.60).

BASEBALL

Altoona sinks Huskies, 5-2

ALTOONA — Altoona baseball toppled Mifflin County on the diamond, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon.

For the Huskies, Evan Strohecker went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Easton Lepley had an RBI. Karl Shirey posted a double in the defeat.

For the Mountain Lions, Eric McAllister had two hits and an RBI. Conner Pike chipped in with an RBI.

On the mound, Lion Carter McConnell tossed five frames, allowed four hits, one earned run (two total), two walks and struck out eight Huskies.

Thad Gerwick pitched four innings for the Huskies, allowing one hit, one run (unearned), one walk and he tallied four punchouts.
