Ross hurls no-hitter in Lock Haven win

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Talia Ross threw a no-hitter in game one and the Lock Haven softball team belted five home runs on the day in a 8-0, 4-1 sweep of Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at Lawrence Field on Wednesday.

With the sweep, the Bald Eagles improve to 11-9 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC East. Mansfield falls to 3-11 on the season and 0-6 in the conference.

Game 1: Lock Haven 8, Mansfield 0

Ross threw a no-hitter (five innings) and the Bald Eagles belted out three home runs to take game one, 8-0.

Ross was perfect through 4.2 innings before allowing her first baserunner on a two-out walk in the top of the fifth. The southpaw finished with 10 strikeouts, while picking up her team-leading eighth victory in the circle.

It is the first no-hitter by The Haven since Madison Waltman in 2022.

Lock Haven opened the scoring on the day with a solo run in the top of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly from Hailey Irwin.

In the bottom of the fourth, The Haven erupted for seven runs behind three, two-run homers from Hailey Irwin, Madison Melius and Maci Brodzina and an RBI-double by Olivia LeMeau to secure an 8-0 run-rule victory.

Irwin, Melius and LeMeau each finished with two hits, while Irwing drove in a game-high three runs.

Game 2: Lock Haven 4, Mansfield 1

In the nightcap, Mansfield recorded their first hit of the day with a solo shot in the top of the second inning to take an early lead.

In the bottom of the third, Abby Robertson homered and LeMeau singled in a pair of runs to give the Bald Eagles a 3-1 lead.

Madison Harvy homered in the bottom of the fourth to extend LH’s advantage to 4-1.

Lock Haven starter Marissa Horn shut the door from there and finished with three strikeouts, just one earned run in the full seven innings to earn her first victory on the year.

Irwin continued her hot start from game one and recorded two more hits, including a double, while LeMeau finished with a game-high two RBIs.

The Bald Eagles remain home and will host Shepherd for a PSAC East doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 27 at Lawrence Field.
