STATE COLLEGE — Mifflin County’s indoor track and field team competed in the State College High School Invitational No. 3 at Penn State University on Wednesday.
The Huskies finished the regular season in strong fashion. They opened the meet with a boys DMR race in which the Huskies captured America’s No. 1 time. Reese Cubbison, Connor Lynch, Wyatt Kauffman and Carter Smith lit the track with a time of 10:07.66.
Huskies distance coach Alex Monroe said, “Our DMR really showed up today. We had planned an attempt earlier in the season, but it just didn’t come together due to interruptions out of our control. So, tonight they were really excited to just get a time on the board. My only goal for them was to run a clean race, qualify, and get a tune-up for states. A year ago, we set the goal of winning the relay at the highest level, and tonight we got one step closer.”
As the night progressed, many of the athletes ended with season-best times and distances. Taylor Kenepp broke the school indoor 400-meter record with a time of 1:01.06, placing second in the event. Aiden Scavitti ran a personal record time of 2:05.24 in the 800 to capture another second place for the Huskies. Reese Cubbison laid down a good time of 8:57.06 in the 3000, earning him the win in the event.
The coaches are very proud of the team and their performances as they ended their season. A few Huskies will resume training and preparing for the PTFCA Indoor Track Championships on March 1.
