Felix powers Bald Eagles’ win over Lakers
LOCK HAVEN – Trailing midway through the third quarter, the Lock Haven field hockey team erupted for four straight goals, headlined by a penalty stroke goal by senior goalkeeper Kelsey Felix, in route to a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over visiting Mercyhurst on Senior Day at Charlotte Smith Field on Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the start of the game, the Bald Eagles honored seniors Felix, Megan Beppler, Brynlee Pinschenat, Florance de Kroon and Molly Lynch.
With the victory, The Haven ended the season on a two-game winning streak.
Trailing 1-0 in the 38th minute, The Haven drew a penalty stroke and turned to Felix to take the shot.
Felix buried the attempt to knot the game at 1-1 with her first career goal.
The score ignited the Bald Eagles’ offense, who went on to score four unanswered goals coming from Felix, Lynch, Madison Friend and Melanie Beall.
Mercyhurst cut its deficit to 4-2 with four minutes to go, but The Haven shut things down from there to clinch the victory.
In cage, Felix finished with three saves to move her career total to 460 as she finished her career third all-time in program history.
Lock Haven finished the contest with a 21-7 advantage in shots and 18-12 lead in corners. Friend led The Haven with three shots on goal.
In the first half, Lock Haven controlled possession and led 7-4 in shots and 8-6 in corners, but Mercyhust scored the lone goal to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
