GETTYSBURG — The Mifflin County Huskies turned up for next weekend’s Mid Penn Conference Cross Country Championship by winning the Gettysburg Invitational in Gettysburg on Saturday.
Carter Smith and Reese Cubbison finished 1-2 as the Huskies packed four runners into the top 10. Smith crossed the finish line with a time of 15:16.4 with Cubbison at 15:41.9. Hoyt Rodenbaugh placed seventh in 16:03.4 and Wyatt Kauffman 10th in 16:11.7.

“I am really pleased with the program’s performance today,” Mifflin County head coach Alex Monroe said. “They have all been itching to get on a faster course, and today their hard work paid off in the form of many personal bests. Reese Cubbison, Wyatt Kauffman, Hart Oden, Aidan Scavetti, Logan Breneman, David Snyder, Camryn Treaster, Craig Whitenight, Anthony Palopoli, Colton Leister and Logan Boyer all ran a PR (personal record) today.”
Mifflin County scored 48 points, which enabled the Huskies to outdistance Urbana (82), Lower Dauphin (143), Chambersburg (197) and Hollidaysburg (202) in the top five.
“This was the confidence builder many needed as we head into the postseason,” Monroe added. “I’d also like to highlight Colton Leister today. I’ve watched him work really hard and sometimes come up short, but he never quits. Today he got a well-deserved breakthrough (over a minute PR).”
The Mid Penns will be held at Big Spring High School, located in Newville.
Husky girls place 10th out of 26 teams
GETTYSBURG — Mifflin County had nine varsity and junior varsity runners compete at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, and six recorded personal records as the Huskies finished 10th out of 26 teams.
Mifflin County’s top finisher was Amilia Coffey, who placed 32nd with a time of 20:43. She was followed by Ava Kratzer in 21:05, which was 43rd. Rounding out the varsity were: Liberty Cook, 61st in 21:37; Abby Anderson, 87th in 22:20; Maya Morgan, 143rd in 24:18; Caroline Palopoli, 146th in 24:20; and Madison Baumgardner, 151st in 24:38.
Amilia finished in a great place today as she is clearly back on track after fighting through some challenges in the past few races,” Huskies head coach Neil Breneman said. “Ava Kratzer posted another PR coming in second for the team. I was glad to have Liberty Cook and Abby Anderson with us racing in the valuable 3 and 4 positions for the team. Our team would not have placed where we did without them.
“Finishing the scoring today for the Huskies was Maya Morgan, who bested her old PR and looked stronger than ever,” Breneman added. “Maya ran a great practice on Thursday which made me believe she was going to do something special today. I am so proud she has continued to put the hard work in and could post a PR in her senior year. Finishing out the varsity team was Caroline Palopoli and Madison Baumgardner, both of whom looked great and had their best runs of the season.”
In the JV race, Eden Smith was 25th in 24:46 and Carys Morgan 66th in 28:46. Kratzer, Anderson, Maya Morgan, Palopoli, Smith and Carys Morgan each set personal records.
The Huskies race at the Mid Penns on Saturday.
