LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County boys soccer team clashed with Gettysburg in a primetime showdown at Kish Bank Field at Donald M. Chapman III Stadium on Wednesday and wound up in a 1-1 tie in overtime.

Gettysburg drew the advantage in the first half with 11 shots on goal but couldn’t push any points across. The Warriors came close a few times on good looks from Ryan Cunningham and Giovanni Hernandez but on the other end Jack Suydam was at his best defending his shots well on quality saves.

Suydam would only let one get by the whole game that would come off the foot of Hernandez that would break the tie and give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage in the second half at the 15-minute mark of the second half.

Mifflin County hung tough and would respond right back on a goal from the star studded senior Dylan Liggett on senior night to even the score at 1-1 with 15:28 to go in regulation.

Huskies coach Keith Yoder, “Gettysburg first of all is a very disciplined and really good team, they do not give up a ton of goals. Not a lot of goals get scored against them. So for us to be down one and come back with that goal from Dylan Liggett meant a lot and going into our last game of the season and district play we are excited for what’s to come. This was a really good result for us against a quality team like Gettysburg.”

Two halves couldn’t decide both teams’ fate as we would go into overtime the Warriors still had the advantage with the amount of shots on goal they took. But Mifflin County’s stingy defense would hold their own and keep Gettysburg off the board. Mifflin County would only have one shot on goal in the first overtime and we would head into the second overtime.

Mifflin County would finally own the advantage in shooting but still were kept off the scoreboard. Mifflin County had good looks from Jace Bagrosky and Bruce Baker but the Huskies couldn’t convert as the game would end in a draw, 1-1, in a game where both teams battled. Mifflin County clinched a postseason berth prior to the game.
