Huskies knock off Indians, 17-6

WAYNESBORO — Mifflin County hit the road for a Mid-Penn matchup at Buchanan Automotive Stadium on Friday night against Waynesboro. The Huskies were victorious once again this season, beating the home squad 17-6.

Mifflin County (4-3) had a strong first half by their backs as Brandon Kauffman had 59 yards rushing while Zyhair Hill had 18 yards. Kauffman would have over 100 yards in the ballgame.

Huskies’ Brandon Kauffman said, “We are just going to continue to work and stay focused. Our defense came up big for us and that’s something we can bring with us next week against Lower Dauphin.”

Mifflin County was stout on defense as Adan Daubert had a sack in the first half and his success carried into the second half. Gavin Herrington and Jaren Kenny were also a force to be reckoned with on the defensive end.

Huskies coach Shane Breon said, “I’m very proud of how our kids played tonight. Our defense stuffed them four times, they have a good program and great coaches and players. It was nice to have a clean game tonight. I’m just proud of our kids. We have a tall task next week at Lower Dauphin. We’ve got to put in the work. The work is cut out for us. Brandon Kauffman ran the ball well tonight, we had enough scores to get past them.”

Waynesboro (2-5) was led by Kean Baumgardner as he was the focal point of the offense. He was also part of a drive where he had four straight carries and a one handed catch but Baumgardner would be stopped by a host of Huskies at the Mifflin County one-yard line for a turnover on downs.

Mifflin County’s defensive effort would pay dividends as Dodger Weaver would pick Rayshawn Hewitt off and return it for 12 yards. That’s what ultimately led the Huskies over the Indians on a night where the Huskies defense showed up by allowing only six points.

Mifflin County will play Lower Dauphin 11 a.m. next Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium.

Starting at $2.99/week.
