CROSS COUNTRY
Huskies fall to Trojans, Thundering Herd
REEDSVILLE — The Mifflin County cross country Lady Huskies faced off against Chambersburg and Carlisle on Tuesday afternoon. Both opposing teams held deep rosters and were able to defeat the Huskies 17-44 (Chambersburg) and 22-35 (Carlisle).
“Even though the team score may not show it, I am super proud of how hard the girls have been working. Amilia and Ava are consistently going out and running much faster times than last year. They are strong and growing in confidence. They are setting themselves up well for a great remainder of the season. Lizzy Massie knocked another minute from her previous PR (personal record) and is becoming a fierce competitor. I do not doubt that she laid it all out on the course today. Her effort was fantastic. Madison Baumgardner is getting back on track as well, posting her best time of the season,” Huskies coach Neil Breneman said.
There is no rest for the weary as the Huskies will be back in action mid-day Friday when they will compete in the Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday.
Scoring for the Huskies:
Amilia Coffey (21:17)
Ava Kratzer (21:38)
Lizzy Massie (23:39)
Madison Baumgardner (25:18)
Caroline Palopoli (26:03)
Mifflin County boys x-country also lost to Chambersburg, 17-44, and Carlisle, 15-50.
“I made the difficult decision to bench my varsity runners today, as they go up against Pa. No. 3 again on Friday. As a result we had a tough day on paper, but there was a lot of valuable racing experience gained by our JV runners. Chambersburg and Carlisle are top notch teams, and I’m really proud of the boys for trying to be competitive with them. September is always challenging with hard training and lots of racing. I know their best days are right around the corner. Connor Lynch and Cam Treaster had standout days today,” MC coach Alex Monroe noted.
The Husky cross country teams head to Penn St. for the Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday.
