Huskies drop home match vs. Patriots
LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County’s girls tennis team lost to Red Land on Thursday.
Mifflin County got solid effort from sophomore Maddy Clinard. Mifflin County (3-5) would fall in the match against Red Land’s Maura Duvall, 2-0. Mifflin County also got solid efforts from Marcella McKee and Ellie Hartzler despite falling 2-0 in doubles play against Patriots Allison Walker and Eva Winters.
Junior Ava Kelly helped the Huskies out against Patriot Shaeli McGeary despite suffering a hard-fought defeat in the match. Kelly showed great hustle in a solid effort against her opponent.
Kelly thought she performed well, but the Husky wants to keep focusing on the details of her game.
“I played pretty well today, but I have to make sure to focus on my footsteps with what I’m doing in my matches in order to keep points going and attack the net more. I thought my serves were pretty consistent,” Kelly stated.
Red Land showed good talent against Mifflin County. Duvall and McGeary had great serves; the Patriots showed great speed and were smart about their play.
“We used today as a learning experience. The girls have taken some steps to improve themselves and their methods after today’s match to improve on their technique… the next match will be more improved than this one,” Huskies coach Meredith Schwenk said.
The Huskies (3-5) host Northern at 4 p.m. Monday.
