Timms, Macedo lead sprint car field
KNOXVILLE, IOWA — Ryan Timms and Carson Macedo will lead the sprint
car field to green tonight in the 64th running of the Knoxville
Nationals. The 50-lap Nationals A-main pays $195,000 to win.
Timms and Macedo earned the most points during their qualifying nights
and secured the front row of the Nationals A-main. Both drivers would
be looking for their first championship.
Timms, of Oklahoma City, is a five-time winner and regular competitor
at Knoxville, and won his qualifying race Wednesday. He’ll be the
youngest pole sitter in the storied history of the Nationals. He turns
19 on August 26.
Pennsylvania’s Logan Schuchart starts third and 2018 Nationals
Champion Brad Sweet starts fourth. Sheldon Haudenschild starts fifth
and Corey Day sixth. Rico Abreu and Emerson Axsom share the fourth
row. Abreu won the 360 Nationals last Saturday at Knoxville.
Three-time and defending Nationals Champion Kyle Larson starts ninth.
He won his Thursday night qualifier. Justin Peck starts 10th.
Rounding out the top 16 qualifiers are: Garet Williamson, Austin
McCarl, Bill Balog, Giovanni Scelzi, Cameron Martin, and Spencer
Bayston.
These drivers locked directly into the Nationals A-main after their
qualifying nights.
The next 10 drivers in points start in the front five rows of the
B-main. Chris Windom starts on the pole with Pennsylvania’s Brent
Marks starting second. Other Pennsylvania drivers locked into B-main
starting spots include Brock Zearfoss in eighth, and Danny Dietrich
ninth.
All other drivers raced again on Friday night, including World of
Outlaws point leader David Gravel, who flipped in turn one on the
opening lap of his heat race after contact from another car. King’s
Royal Champion Anthony Macri, of Dillsburg, was scheduled to race
Friday as well as Chase Dietz and Lucas Wolfe. A total of 100 sprint
cars attempted to qualify.
Four more drivers earned spots through Friday night’s Hard Knox
program, which featured all drivers who finished outside the top 26 in
points during the qualifying nights
The total purse for the four-day Knoxville Nationals is $1.182
million, including $734,000 in the Saturday night A-main alone. The
winner receives $195,000, second place $85,000 and third $45,000. The
10th place finisher earns $20,000. Just making the show is at least
$15,000.
While Port Royal and Williams Grove Speedways have the weekend off,
sprint cars are racing tonight at Clinton County Speedway in Lock
Haven for the Phil Walter Classic, and at Lincoln Speedway in Hanover.
