Juniata pair grapple at Marine Corps Junior Nationals

FARGO, N.D. – Two wrestlers from Juniata High School competed at the United States Marine Corps Junior Nationals, which was held from July 10-19, at the FargoDome in Fargo, N.D., and featured competition in men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.

Madison Bryner, of Mifflintown, and Katelynn Krepps, of Mifflin, wrestled at 125 and 190 pounds in the 16-under girls freestyle division.

Bryner dropped her first-round match via fall in 31 seconds to Narayah Rodriguez, of Connecticut.

In the second round, Bryner received a bye then won a 13-12 decision over Yasmin Pastrana Nino, of Oregon.

In the next round, Bryner dominated Viviana Soto, of Wyoming, with a 17-4 technical fall in 3:30. Bryner bowed out to another Pennsylvania wrestler, dropping an 8-4 decision in the second match of the third round.

Krepps started off with a bye then lost by fall in 1:43 to Vida Cienega, of Washington. In her consolation-round bout, Krepps defeated Madeline Sorensen, of Wisconsin, by a 10-0 technical fall in 1:51.

Krepps kept rolling by pinning Sawyer Bauer, of Arizona, in a mere 12 seconds. In her last bout, Krepps was decked by Braya Andrews, of Arizona, in 2:42.
