Indians, Tigers named TVL All-Stars

Halifax dominated the Tri-Valley League in baseball this spring and Susquenita did the same in softball. So, it only made sense that those two schools dominated the TVL’s All-Star selections, which were released on Sunday.
Halifax, which completed an undefeated TVL campaign at 15-0 and went 18-3 overall, advanced to the District 3 Class 2A Championship game where the Wildcats dropped a 3-1 decision to Camp Hill.
Halifax relied on the bat of junior Cohen Bechtel, who was named the TVL’s Most Valuable Player. Bechtel led the league in hitting with a .450 average, RBIs with 22, triples with four and slugging percentage at 0.875. He tied for top honors with 35 total bases and finished fourth with 18 hits. Bechtel caught a pitching staff with the top four pitchers having a 1.26 earned run average or better.
Overall, Bechtel batted .322 with 29 hits, 15 runs scored, two home runs, four triples, three doubles, 14 walks and 24 RBIs.
Halifax sophomore Cooper Custer also made the TVL First Team. Juniata had one player on the first-team with junior Daylyn Kennedy, who led the league with 27 stolen bases and tied for first with 22 hits, and ended up fourth with 20 runs scored and fifth in batting at .440.
The Indians went 7-9 in the TVL and 9-10-1 overall, losing to Bellefonte in the District 6 Class 4A Championship game.
Rounding out the first team was Greenwood junior A.J. Adlon, Newport sophomores Jameson Cummins and Landon Zaring and Susquenita seniors Chanse Fisher and Billy Syster and sophomore Colton Fry.
East Juniata junior Kelton Belton headlined the TVL second team as he led the league with five home runs. The Tigers went 2-13 in the TVL and 3-15 overall.
Rounding out the second-team was Halifax freshman Joshua Zahurak, Newport senior Aden Banks and junior Zach Bates, Saint Joseph’s Catholic sophomore Caleb Foytack, Susquenita senior Jon Erdossy and junior Ryan Schoppy and Upper Dauphin senior Colt Bellis and sophomore Karson Engle.
TVL SOFTBALL
Susquenita senior Ayahna Fleisher powered the Blackhawks to a 23-1 mark and the PIAA semifinals in Class 3A to earn TVL softball MVP honors.
Fleisher’s bat was blazing at .605, which ranked first in the TVL. She also topped the league leaders with 28 runs scored and slugging percentage at 1.053, was second with 23 hits and seventh with 17 RBIs.
Overall, she batted .527 with 39 hits, 43 runs scored, seven home runs, nine doubles, one triple, 11 walks and 33 RBIs.
From the circle, Fleisher was just as dominant, finishing first with eight wins, second with a 0.93 ERA and WHIP at 0.584 and third in strikeouts with 60 Ks in 37 2/3 innings.
Overall, she registered 17 wins and 123 strikeouts, allowed 23 earned runs out of 29 scored and posted a 1.62 ERA and 0.883 WHIP.
Susquenita lost 5-0 to Bald Eagle Area in the PIAA Final Four.
Juniata senior Regan Lowrey was a unanimous first-team selection as she led the league with 23 stolen bases and ranked seventh in the TVL in batting at .538 and seventh in hits with 21 and runs scored with 22.
The Indians went 4-9 in the TVL and 5-12 overall.
East Juniata senior Ryley Dressler also made the first team as she helped the Tigers to a 2-12 mark in the TVL and 4-13 overall.
Rounding out the first-team selections were Greenwood sophomore Mackenzie DeVore, Halifax freshman Bebe Roland, Line Mountain sophomore Madylinn Grindstaff, Newport senior Megan Foltz, Susquenita senior Tierney Stuempfle and Upper Dauphin senior Cayden Warfield.
Junior seniors Ava Lauver and Victoria Moore headlined the TVL softball second team. Moore ranked seventh in the league with 12 RBIs.
East Juniata junior Madison Snyder also made the second team. Snyder tied for second in the league with 23 hits.
Rounding out the second team were Greenwood sophomore Jayden Brosious, Line Mountain senior Janessa Barwick and junior Koera Leitzel, Newport senior Gracyn Shutt, Susquenita juniors Lena Beckenbaugh and Braelyn Prinz and Upper Dauphin sophomores Amaya Hoffman, Nalona Jury and Miley Yeager.
