Racing is back at Port Royal

PORT ROYAL — Racing action returns to Port Royal Speedway tonight at 7 with the sprint cars, late models, and super sportsman on the card.

It’s the final tune-up for the sprint cars before next weekend’s Bob Weikert Memorial, which pays $75,000 to win on Sunday night, May 25. Weiket Weekend is sanctioned by the High Limit Racing Series. The sprint cars will be featured all three nights with limited late models joining the programs.

Port Royal hosts Camera and Autograph night tonight. Fans purchasing general admission tickets will be allowed in the pit area from 5 until 5:45. All ladies will be admitted for $10 general admission for rescheduled Ladies Night. There will be plenty of giveaways for the fans as well. The pits open at 4, general admission at 5, hot laps at 6, and then racing begins at 7.

Mother Nature has not been kind to Port Royal this season. The speedway hasn’t raced on a Saturday night since April 26 when Ryan Smith picked up his second sprint car win of the season in the Kreitz Racing 69K. Only four sprint car features have been completed with Anthony Macri and Michael Walter winning the other two.

The late models have also completed four races with Rick Eckert winning two. Gregg Satterlee has one win, and Ricky Thornton Jr. won the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race on Sunday, April 27. This is the last race completed at the speedway.

Brock Zearfoss leads the sprint car points by 20 over Justin Whittall and 45 over Walter.

Eckert leads the late models by 30 over Satterlee and 85 over Colton Flinner.
