Little Lions storm past Huskies, 18-2

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County softball was hoping to reach the .500 mark on Monday against State College. But, the Little Lions had other ideas as they rolled to an 18-2 win.
For the Huskies (5-7), Riley Hine collected two hits, a walk and a run. Malaina Maxwell added an RBI and one hit. Macy Pietzch posted two hits.
For the Lions (5-4), MJ McShea tallied a team-best five RBIs with three runs and three hits. Sydney Wells added three RBIs and three runs with three walks.
Paige Moriarta added two ribbies and Sarah Mellott recorded two RBIs and two hits. Ruby True had one RBI with three runs scored.
McShea had two triples with one double and Mellott added one triple.
State scored 10 times in the seventh inning to seal the road victory. They also scored three times in the sixth and second frames.
Mifflin County held a 2-1 lead entering the top of the second.
State had nine hits and no errors. The Huskies had six hits with nine errors.
In the circle, Addison Harpster pitched five innings of four-hit ball. She allowed two runs, three walks and seven strikeouts.
With the win, State College sweeps the regular-season series from the Huskies. State beat Mifflin County on April 13, 10-0, in six innings.
Monday’s defeat snaps a three-game winning streak for the Huskies.
Next, the Huskies host Chambersburg (5-3) at 4:15 p.m. today. They also host Cedar Cliff on Thursday and Mt. Union on Friday.
Eagles thwart Indians, 11-1
MANDATA — Line Mountain (9-6) punished Juniata during an 11-1 softball win on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Indians dropped to 3-8 on the season and have lost four in a row.
Ava Lauver went 2-for-2 and Ashley Piper was 2-for-3 for Juniata. Destiny Yohn had a 1-for-3 day with a double.
In the circle, Kalynn Brown took the loss for the Indians as she allowed seven runs (three earned).
Juniata meets Halifax (4-7) on Wednesday at 4:30.
BASEBALL
Juniata dodges Eagles, 14-13
MANDATA — Juniata kept pace with Bellefonte in the D6 Class 4A standings by topping Line Mountain during Monday’s baseball action, 14-13.
For the Indians (7-6), Gage Harlon posted two hits and three RBIs. G. Imes added three knocks with three ribbies. Shortstop Daylyn Kennedy had two RBIs with two hits and two walks in the leadoff spot. Bryce Harlon scored three times and walked twice.
Kennedy had a double and a triple.
Juniata outscored the Eagles, 8-1, through the first two innings. Then, the Indians tacked on six more runs in the third frame.
The Eagles responded by scoring eight times in the third stanza. Then, the home squad posted two runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Line Mountain’s pitching staff kept Juniata off the board from the fourth inning onward.
Juniata had a dozen hits with three errors. The Eagles chalked up 11 hits with two miscues.
In Class 4A, Juniata is right behind Bellefonte (8-6), who beat Philipsburg-Osceola on Monday in 10 frames, 5-4.
Juniata battles Halifax on Wednesday.
