Big Valley tops State for D5 title

The Big Valley 10u baseball team dropped State College, 3-2, in the District 5 championship on Wednesday.

Valley stormed back after suffering through a 2-0 deficit.

Owen Fultz collected two hits and an RBI. Aiden Goss and Jake Savitts each had an RBI as well.

Big Valley had seven hits against State pitching.

State College was led by Berkley Ingold, who recorded two hits and an RBI. Liam Williams tallied the other ribbie.

Liam Bender earned the win on the mound for Big Valley and Chase Yoder tacked on the save.

Calvin Napikoski led off with a single past second. Owen Fultz reached on a State College error to join Napikoski, having baserunners on first and second.

This got the rally started as Valley was trailing in the fourth frame, 2-0.

Savitts smacked a line drive into right field, scoring Napikoski to slice the lead in half.

State College limited Big Valley to just one run in the inning.

But in the sixth frame, Big Valley grabbed the lead.

Yoder added a double. Napikoski reached base thanks to a walk. Yoder moved up to third on a passed ball. He tied the game at two on a Fultz double. Napikoski advanced to third on the play. Savitts was intentionally walked to fill the bases.

Goss brought the winning run in on an RBI fielder’s choice.

State’s Liam Williams ripped an RBI single scoring Summerson.
