JOHNSTOWN — The Mifflin County Tomahawks were ailing a bit after last weekend’s 57-44 loss to the Bedford County Buffaloes.

The winless Somerset County Miners were just the prescription they needed to get back on track.

The Tomahawks’ Draeson Heyz scored five touchdowns and Jonathan Dodson scored twice and rushed for 57 yards in a 52-6 rout in Great Eastern Football Association action Saturday afternoon in Johnstown.

With the victory, Mifflin County clinched a berth in the upcoming GEFA playoffs.

Tim Beck also scored a touchdown for Mifflin County (6-3), while quarterback Lashawn Brown went 10 of 15 for 118 yards and threw four touchdown passes and no interceptions to light up the scoreboard.

Defensively, the Tomahawks’ Chase Pitts registered 12 tackles as the Miners were held in check much of the contest.

The top eight teams in the GEFA regardless of division qualify for the postseason.

Going into the weekend, Mifflin County was the sixth seed. They were in fourth place in the Mountain Division, behind co-leaders Moshannon Valley and Bedford who are both 7-1 and the Williamsport Wildcats, who were 5-3 but edged Mifflin County 33-31 a few weeks ago.

Not all of this week’s games had been reported yet on the GEFA website.

Mifflin County closes out the regular season at defending Keystone Bowl champion Moshannon Valley on Saturday.

Starting at $2.99/week.
