Illegal immigrants should be held accountable

To the Editor:

After having read the article in regard to our sheriff (Juniata County) linking with ICE, I found myself in total agreement with his actions. I do not subscribe to those who compare illegals with our fore-bearers entering this country. My grandparents came here legally through the front door and did not sneak across our borders.

When someone breaks our laws, they do not deserve praise and acceptance. They are, or at least supposed to be, punished for having done so, not rewarded.

The argument that many of the illegals have been here for decades and deserve to stay ignores the fact they are not here legally and obviously are not citizens. They are simply law breakers and use our services as if they are entitled. And who suffers but the taxpayers who bear the brunt of higher school taxes, welfare programs such as Medicaid and free food programs and we should not ignore the incurred costs created by the criminal element in the illegal communities that offer nothing but an added burden on our citizens.

If someone enters my home uninvited, they are trespassers. That is exactly what the illegals in this country are when they cross the border into our country uninvited. Please note, legal immigrants, as mentioned in the article, came here invited; they were welcomed and that should be the continued criteria. To compare illegals to legal immigrants is an illogical assertion and an insult to those who came here lawfully.
