Robert E. ‘Bob’ Reed

Robert E. “Bob” Reed, 63, of Mifflintown, passed away suddenly on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026.

Born Feb. 11, 1962, in Lewistown, he is a son of Cecil J. Reed and the late Barbara Elaine (Ickes) Reed.

He is also survived by four siblings, Deborah K. Dallmann, Jay E. Reed, Lori A. Doyle (Bill), and Brian L. Reed (Dawn).

Bob was well known and respected in Juniata County and the surrounding area for his expertise as a diesel mechanic. He was self-taught but had specialized skills in complex AC and wiring systems and many drivers depended on Bob to keep them on the road. He found it hard to say “no” to anyone, working with dedication and commitment to get the job done right.

He started working at Lyon’s Fashions in McAlisterville as a cutter, then pursued his career as a mechanic with Mayes Trucking in Oakland Mills. After several years at Mayes, he worked at Geedey’s Towing and Garage. Bob then decided to form his own business and ended up doing the majority of his work for AVJ Trucking in Port Royal.

Bob was a dedicated son and helped his dad after the loss of his mother five years ago. While he rarely took time off, in the past he enjoyed riding motorcycle and snowmobiles and loved animals and taking special care of them.

There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown followed by his funeral service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Knouse, officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, make a contribution in Bob’s name to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or online at www.heart.org.

For his many friends, co-workers, dad, brothers, and sisters, he was a kind and generous soul who left us suddenly. The hole in our hearts will not easily be filled. He will be deeply missed.
