James L. Brannon

James L. Brannon, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 22, 1937 in Lewistown, James was the son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Wray) Brannon. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie (Spigelmyer) Brannon; his daughter, Holly Shockey; as well as siblings Joseph Brannon, Nevada Helber, Pearl Brannon, Winifred Shemory, and Anna Herbert.

He is survived by three daughters, Paula Powers and husband, Ralph, of Belleville, Denise Fultz and husband, Christopher, of Lewistown, Jennifer Byler and husband, Norman, of Belleville; grandchildren, Tiffany Weaver and husband, B.J., Jason George and wife, Kayla, Derek Powers and companion, Emily Treaster, Ren Fultz, Megan Luckovich and husband, Dylan, Marisa George and husband, Alex Lewis, Jocelyn Byler and companion, Noah Millan; great-grandchildren, Lyndon, Emily, Brenton, Athea, Amelia, Matthew, Zander, Elena, and Jon; a sister, Ada Mellott, of Va.

James attended Lewistown Assembly of God Church, where he found fellowship and spiritual guidance.

During his earlier years, James held various positions, working at movie theaters, J Wood, Marlette Homes, and finally New Holland, where he retired. He enjoyed woodworking and cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his granddaughter Jocelyn, who was always by his side. Among his beloved family members, his granddaughter Jocelyn held a unique place in his heart. Jocelyn was a constant companion, always by his side, sharing precious moments and offering support. Their close bond was evident to everyone, reflecting the deep affection and connection they shared.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 3 pm, Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m., with Pastor Kirk Nagel officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.
