Dr. Ernest ‘Ernie’ Alfred Baade

Dr. Ernest “Ernie” Alfred Baade, 100, passed away Aug. 16, 2025, in Bradenton, Fla. He broke his hip on July 25 and contracted COVID and pneumonia while in the hospital.

Ernie was born on Nov. 11, 1924, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Ernest and Ava Baade. He attended Northside High School and later graduated from Indiana Medical School.

He married Phyllis Ann Elzey (Ossian, Ind.) on June 3, 1950, and they were living in Indianapolis while he finished his residency in ear, nose, and throat surgery.

The Korean War began and he was drafted to serve as a Captain in the United States Air Force at a base in California. He was head of a 200 bed hospital for returning veterans.

After his service, he joined Dr. Robert Rawdon in Lewistown, where he would practice medicine until his retirement in the late 1980s.

Ernie was a loving husband to Phyllis, who preceeded him in death on Nov. 26, 2022. They enjoyed 72 wonderful years together. He was also preceded in death by their son, Richard E. Baade, in 1990.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Sheryl Printz, her husband, Jim, and their daughter, Jacquelyn (Ross).

Ernie lived a full life, always pursuing his many hobbies. He loved snow and water skiing, sailing, hunting, flying his single engine plane and his life long obsession with golf. Ernie was a caddy as a teen and never stopped loving and equally hating the game!

He will be remembered as an avid reader who loved to learn new things and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be so missed.
