Shirley L. (Wagner) Landis

Shirley L. (Wagner) Landis, 94, formerly of Lewistown, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in Winfield where she has resided for the last four years with her daughter and son-in-law.

Born Oct. 29, 1930 in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Minnie and William ‘Ward’ Wagner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Norman ‘Spike’ Wagner and sister-in-law, Janie Wagner.

Shirley wed the late Lawrence W. ‘Larry’ Landis on Sept. 19, 1953. Together they celebrated 68 years of marriage. Shirley treasured her family and is survived by children, Barbara Jo Richard and husband, Steve, of Winfield and Gary W. Landis and companion, Angie Wolfley, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Emily Mowry and husband, Thomas, Shane Richard and companion, Sarah Hornberger, of Winfield, Kyle Richard and wife, Cady, of Selinsgrove, Julie Landis-Snook and companion, Brandon Holland, of Castle Hayne, N.C., and Nicole Swanger and husband, Jon, of McVeytown; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Cooper and Kinley Mowry, Tighe Miller, Carter, Blake and Cole Richard, Hayden Snook, Joseph Holland, and Maelyn Swanger.

A 1949 graduate of Lewistown High School, Shirley worked at the Shirt Factory for several years after graduation. She would later spend 22 years as an employee of the Bon-Ton in Lewistown until her retirement.

Shirley was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine and served as a Penn Highlands Band Booster.

Shirley enjoyed participating in Eastern Primitive Rendevous with her husband, trips to the beach with her grandchildren and spending time with her special group of girlfriends. Shirley will be remembered for many things but perhaps most notably for the way she cared for others. Whether doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, bringing a meal to someone or simply sending a card, Shirley was always thinking of others. Her caring spirit will continue to live on in those who will miss her so deeply.

Visitors will be received on Tuesday, May 20, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, from 10 to 11 am with a service to immediately follow with Rev. Stephanie Rupert officiating.

Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park.
