Delores L. McCartle

Delores L. McCartle embarked on an 88 year journey in Milroy, a spirited and determined soul whose life was marked by many friendships and adventures. She passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 16, 2025.

Born on Dec. 2, 1936, daughter of the late Russell Lee and Pearl V. (Mathieson) Gahagan, youngest of three children. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald D. Gahagan in 1967, and Robert C. Gahagan in 2019, and a cherished furry friend, Tiggy.

Her legacy lives on through her son, Scott Gahagan of Reedsville, and the many lives she touched in the 88 year journey. She is also survived by her “adopted grandson” Garrett Espigh of Milroy.

She graduated in 1954 from Armagh-Brown High School. She retired from Fisher Electronics. She had attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milroy. Delores’s early years were a preview of a life lived with remarkable independence. Her spirit took her traveling across the country with her special cousin, Emma Jane (Wilson) Sauter. Delores would bring home a little gift from every destination visited. These served as memories of her adventures and were a testament to her love for sharing experiences with others. Delores was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and Penn State football fan and loved watching the Christmas Hallmark movies and doing diamond art. This brought her much joy. She also spent time at the local Milroy Senior Community Center where she loved to brag about her adoptive grandson Garrett Espigh and to play Rummikub with her friends.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Milroy.
