Yvonne ‘Elaine’ Cavanaugh
Yvonne “Elaine” Cavanaugh, age 83, transitioned peacefully to her home the Lord has prepared for her on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. She was at home in Kingman, Arizona, and surrounded by loved ones.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 64 years, Richard L. Cavanaugh Sr., to whom she was devoted, and her two children, her son, Ric L. Cavanaugh, and his wife, MaryBeth, of Delaware, and her daughter, Lori Y. Cavanaugh of Arizona, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She joins her mother, Sylvia Amspacker Hetrick, and her father, George Ernest Hetrick, in Heaven, and leaves behind her two brothers and sister in laws, Glen and Ann Hetrick, and Alan and Peggy Hetrick, of Pennsylvania, as well as her nieces and nephews in both Delaware and Pennsylvania. Elaine accomplished many wonderful things in her life and was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother,and great-grandmother. Her family meant the world to her.
She lived a life of service, starting with St John’s Episcopal Lutheran Church in Lewistown, to teaching Sunday School at Hope Lutheran Church when her children were small in New Castle, DE, to becoming a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Kingman, Arizona. She retired from JCPenney warehouse in Delaware. She belonged to Eastern Star, The Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Moose, in addition to supporting her husband in all military groups as well. She was an accomplished artist, with a love for ceramics, which she taught, in addition to needlework, knitting, crocheting, drawing, and painting. She never hesitated to share her experiences, her wisdom, her love, and her ready, helping hands. Elaine was deeply loved and was our “Bahama Mama” and our “Queen of Everything”.
A small, private, celebration of life was held in her home in Arizona the following day, and there will be a service at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, where her remains will be buried.
