Ray M. ‘Bud’ Dysinger

Born Jan. 10, 1933, in McAlisterville, he was a son of the late C. Blair and Florence (Strawser) Dysinger.

He was reunited on Friday with his beloved wife, Helen (Hower) Dysinger, who died on the same date, 13 years ago, on July 26, 2011. They were married Nov. 22, 1952 and shared 58 years of marriage before her passing.

He is survived by three children, Nancy Quigley, David Dysinger, and Blair “Butch” Dysinger and wife, Ronda, 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Michelle, Eric, Jill, Mitchell, Cole, Rena, Angela, Nevin, Alex, and Raven, 24 great-grandchildren and one sister, Carol Prye.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Dysinger and Evelyn “Sis” Stetler, one brother, Donald Dysinger, and one son-in-law, Michael Quigley.

Bud graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1950 and owned and operated Dysinger Meats in Locust Run for 47 years. He was also a dairy farmer who had a great love for the land.

After retiring from the butcher shop, he was a driver for Regester Chevrolet and worked for Walker Township.

Throughout his life, he had a love for horses. In the 50s and 60s he was a jockey at the Port Royal Fair. He was involved with helping his father at Juniata Pony Farm, Locust Run, was a founding member of Juniata Saddle Club, Oakland Mills and was a former leader for the Horse and Pony 4-H Club.

He was a member of Millerstown Moose, the State College Elks Club, Locust Run Church, Walker Grange and Lost Creek Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting and was a founding member of Lost Creek Beagle Club. Bud was a real “people person” who could always find someone to talk to.

But his greatest love was for his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially supporting them in their sporting events. When his wife was living, they enjoyed hosting family gatherings, traveling, going on trail rides, and square and polka dancing.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024 at Guss Funeral Home, Inc. 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown with Pastor Mike Neimond officiating. Interment will follow in Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown.

There will be a viewing from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
