Rev. Walter E. ‘Walt’ Williams
Rev. Walter E. “Walt” Williams, 82, formerly of McAlisterville, passed away at 4:30 AM on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Green Ridge Village in Newville, Cumberland County.
Born on June 7, 1941, in Scranton, Lackawanna County, he is a son of the late Stewart N. and Annie A. (Wintermute) Williams.
His wife, Ramona C. (Lowe) Van Horn, preceded him in death on January 5, 2017.
Walt believed that since God was his Father and indeed the Father of everyone else on this earth that every male was his brother, and every female was his sister.
He was a 1959 graduate of Middletown High School in Middletown, PA; a 1963 graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics; a 1966 graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity; a 1970 graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity; and a 1983 graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College with an Associate Degree in Data Processing.
In the fall of 1968, Rev. Williams became the Pastor of Lost Creek Presbyterian Church in McAlisterville and retired in January 1987; after which, he spent countless hours donating his time to many local area causes that were dear to his heart.
He enjoyed going to the old “Stop 35” restaurant in Mifflintown where it was like a second home to him because he found many friends and wonderful waitresses to talk to.
Walt envisioned his passing as Walt Whitman did his in his poem, “Song of Myself.” He wrote, “I depart as air, I shake my white locks to the runaway sun, I effuse my flesh in eddies, and drift it in lacy jags. I bequeath myself to the dirt to grow from the grass I love, If you want me again look for me under your boot-soles. You will hardly know who I am or what I mean, but I will be good health to you nevertheless, and filter and fiber your blood. Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you.”
All Services and Interment will be private.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
