John (Jack) M. Grainda, Jr.
								John (Jack) M. Grainda, Jr. of Mechanicsburg, passed away on May 21, 2023, after a long illness. He was born in Philipsburg, NJ, on August 13, 1932, to John M. Grainda, Sr. and Mary Grainda, and was a proud graduate of Phillipsburg Catholic High School in 1952.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952-56 and was honorably discharged. Jack married his high school sweetheart Rose (Mirenna) in Phillipsburg in 1958 and was happily married for 65 years. In his early years, he worked as a bus boy and waiter at the Hotel Easton while also playing baseball from 1950-52 in the Blue Mountain League as a pitcher. Jack spent his entire 40-year business career in the retailing industry, progressing in various merchandising management positions for Allied Stores; Laubach’s in Easton, PA and Pomeroy’s in Reading, PA and Harrisburg, PA and The Bon-Ton in Lewisburg, PA, along with frequent business travel to New York City and Italy. During the years, Jack and Rose enjoyed watching their three boys play sports and attend school functions. In retirement, Jack and Rose traveled extensively in the US and Europe, while spending winter season in Marco Island, FL for 25-years. Jack and Rose were able to create and forge strong, life-lasting friendships in every city they lived in over the years.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth, Mary and Eleanor. Along with his wife Rose, Jack is survived by his three sons and nine grandchildren, son John III, his wife Elizabeth of Carmel, IN, grandsons sons John IV of Carmel, IN, Michael, his wife Clare of Chicago, IL, Mark, his wife Lauren of Westfield, IN, and JJ of Carmel, IN , son Joseph, his wife Elizabeth of Cornelius, NC, granddaughters Elizabeth of Austin, TX, Allison of Mooresville, NC, and Julia Rose of Cornelius, NC, son Jeffrey, his wife Rose of Ft. Collins, CO, and granddaughters Greta of Seattle, WA and Gina of San Francisco, CA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM Tuesday, May 30 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, where there will be a visitation from 10:30 AM until the time of Mass. A private burial will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
