The seventh seal: Rev. 8:1-5

Traveling by train with her father from Amsterdam to Haarlem one day, Corrie began reading a poem to him. Corrie ten Boom was about ten, at the time. When she asked her father, ‘What does ‘sex sin’ mean?’ She describes what happened next: He turned to look at me, as he always did when answering a question, but, to my surprise, he said nothing. At last, he stood up, lifting his traveling case from the rack over our heads, and set it on the floor. Will you carry it off the train, Corrie? He asked. I stood up and tugged at it. It was crammed with watches and spare parts he ...

A lot of sole

LEWISTOWN — Members of this Lewistown congregation have a whole lot of soul — or to be more accurate, soles. Five hundred pairs of shoes were donated recently by members of the Maitland Church of the Brethren, Lewistown, for Soles4Souls, more than doubling the church’s goal of 200. When 25,000 pairs are collected at ...

Faith and understanding our origins

Where did we come from? How did the world come into being? Can we really understand the origins of the universe? These are critically important questions that great minds have probed into for centuries. The problem is, of course, no one was there to witness it all. That is, except for God. “In the beginning, God….” We are not left with the impression that anyone else was there. This is confirmed later on in Genesis 1 with the creation of man. God was the only One who witnessed the creation of the universe. Therefore, if we are going to understand the origins of the universe, we ...

Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things: I Corinthians

In the last article, I made the statement that women are not obligated to wear the head covering today. But the principle of humility and modesty that Paul was encouraging, is needed today as much as it ever was. The carnal Corinthian-type church is alive and well in America today; here is one example. Several years ago, I was greeting people, as I got ready to exit the church after the service. As I got close to the back, I noticed a woman wearing less clothing than many women wear to go swimming at the beach. Now why would someone come to worship God in clothing that is contrary to ...
