REEDSVILLE — A Mifflin County native is returning to Reedsville after trekking across the country on a bicycle in an effort to raise money a New York-based Christian rescue mission. Sixty-one-year-old Pastor Chuck Monts is hoping to raise $100,000 for The Bowery Mission, which provides transpormational services and critical care to New Yorkers experiencing homelessness and hunger. Church seeks partners to provide meals

MIFFLINTOWN — A Juniata County church is looking to partner with other churches to offer a program that would provide nutritious meals to families. Aldersgate United Methodist Church plans to pack meals on Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Port Royal Fairgrounds. According to a news release from the church, it is seeking 100 volunteers to prepare the meals. Meals of Hope will provide training and supplies needed to pack its goal of 50,000 meals, which would cost about $13,500. The church is also seeking financial support to help reach its monetary goal. Good morning, friends! We recently took a trip out west and visited with family. What a blessing they are! If I thought I was weary before we left, I had no clue how much more so when traveling right behind our move off the farm. You know, so much left unfinished. So many boxes to go through yet. On Sept. 6, 1960, the Salado River in Sabinas, Mexico, overran its banks. Flood waters filled the main road leading from Sabinas across the border into the U.S. In their book Five Frogs on a Log Mark Feldman and Michael Spratt tell about a family visiting Mexico that found itself in a difficult situation.
