LEWISTOWN — A weekend of fishing awaits at Kish Park with the Peaceful Mind Veterans Adventures’ third annual fishing outing and the third annual Youth Trout Fishing Tournament.

The Peaceful Mind Veterans Adventures’ fishing outing for nursing home residents is slated for June 11, with a rain date of June 12.

Dan Bishop, founder of Peaceful Mind Veterans Adventures, created this event to share his love of fishing and give back to his community, so he began raising funds for a day of fishing for local nursing home residents.

Bishop provides food and drinks, fishing rods for the residents to use and stocks the pond with trout.

During a Derry Township meeting, Park Manager Josh Garver shared that last year, the Peaceful Mind Veterans Adventures’ event brought in 60 to 70 residents from nursing homes and

hospice care.

Garver added that they net off the pond section and release the trout for the Kish Park and Blaise Alexander Subaru of Lewistown Youth Trout Tournament.

This event is free for ages 14 and under.

The tournament is slated for June 13, sign-up starts at 7 a.m., and fishing begins at 8 a.m. and ends around noon with prizes available.

Garver said they have trophies for the first fish caught, for the largest fish caught and for the first youth who catches their limit.

Starting at $2.99/week.
