Little Lions drop Huskies, 5-0

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County tennis fell to State College on Wednesday, 5-0.

In singles action, State’s Will Liu beat Husky Logan Breneman, 6-0, 6-0. Eric Liu topped Husky Aiden Newlen, 6-0, 6-2. Evan Zhang defeated Husky Reese Hine, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, State’s Jude Cessna and Frank Hsu toppled Huskies Mason Kaniecki and Luke Foltz, 6-1, 6-1.

Dash Nealon and Henry Poole defeated Huskies Max Persing and Max Yoder, 6-0, 6-1.

The Huskies host Juniata at 4 p.m. today.

Indians best Rockets, 4-1

MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata tennis beat James Buchanan on Wednesday afternoon, 4-1.

In singles play, Thea Beward defeated Buchanan’s Brody Crone, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.

In doubles action, Dayton Miller and Isaiah May topped Nick Rawlings and Haiden Quivers of the away team, 6-3, 6-1.

Also, Kole Boop and Josh Martin beat Nate Shaffer and Leighton Bard of the road team, 6-1, 6-2.

Next, Juniata heads to Mifflin County today at 4 p.m.

Huskies battle with Trojans

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County’s Junior High volleyball team started off its season with a home opener against the Trojans from Hershey.

The seventh grade team went back and forth with Hershey in a close three-set match. The Huskies took set one before falling in the next two with scores of 25-23, 21-25 and 12-15. The group was led by Ava Moyer who had 10 aces and three assists.

The eighth grade match was another tight contest, but the Huskies were able to hold off a late charge in the second set to win the match in two with scores of 25-21 and 25-23. Grayce Napikoski had a team-high seven kills and three aces while Sarah Hartsock dished out 6 assists. The team put together a strong defensive effort with Addyson Marks leading the way with 14 digs, followed by Grayce with nine and Geneva Kelly with eight.

The team is home again on Monday, when they host the Eagles from Cumberland Valley.
