Derry Township Supervisors met Monday at the Derry Township Municipal Building in Lewistown.
LEWISTOWN — Derry Township Supervisors shared some traffic concerns for a bridge project expected to take place Aug. 20, 2027, through Oct. 20, 2027, during their Monday meeting.
Supervisors shared that before their meeting, they met with officials from PennDOT and SAI Consulting to discuss a bridge reconstruction project over state Route 322 on Green Avenue in Lewistown, between the Greenwood Village (Independent Living, Memory Care and Nursing Care) and the St. Mark’s Community Cemetery.
According to Supervisor Ronald Napikoski Jr., PennDOT shared its proposed detour route with supervisors, but they have some concerns with the proposed route.
The proposed detour directs traffic down state Route 522 to Crossover Drive, then back onto Back Maitland Road.
Supervisors explained that they reported tractor-trailer traffic on both Knepp Avenue and Jacks Creek Road to PennDOT officials, and that PennDOT is taking time to consider other options.
In other news. Supervisors shared that Derry Township residents received their first quarterly sewer bill, due April 20, at the 2026 rate approved at a December 2025 meeting.
The 2026 sewer rate is $159 per quarter, with residential and commercial rates of $15.00 per 1,000 gal.
In 2025, supervisors received a letter from the Sanitary Sewer Authority stating that, after reviewing its fiscal year 2025 financial report, the authority projected that 61.8% of its budget would go to treatment costs.
“With inflation of sewer treatment and utility costs, we must drive up our rates,” the letter stated.
During the regular business portion of the meeting, officials approved the release of escrow funds for the Mifflin County High School Athletic Field project and the purchase of a Belmont Trailer (per budget) for $16,512.94.
