Teen driver dies as a result of recent Union Township crash

BELLEVILLE — A recent vehicle crash in Union Township, Mifflin County has claimed the life of a teenage driver. According to the report released by the Mifflin County Regional Police Department, the Mifflin County Communications Center received an iPhone crash detection Jan. 30 at 11:18 p.m. in the area of Route 655 and Kanagy Road in Belleville. The responding officer arrived on the scene and determined the vehicle had been traveling southbound on Route 655, crossed the double yellow lines and entered the northbound lane of travel before leaving the roadway, striking an adjacent ditch and impacting a concrete barrier near the entrance to L.M. Aumiller’s engine shop. The vehicle sustained severe damage with air bag deployment.

The officer immediately called for fire and EMS response. The operator of the vehicle, a 17-year-old female was entrapped in the wreckage and unresponsive. The victim was extricated and airlifted to Hershey Medical Center.

On Wednesday, Feb. 4, MCRPD was notified by the Dauphin County Coroner’s office that the female operator had died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

MCRPD was assisted at the crash scene by Belleville Fire Co., Big Valley EMS and Fame EMS.
