Geisinger recognized for orthopaedic specialty care
LEWISTOWN — Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital was among six Geisinger facilities recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield for specialty care in orthopaedic surgeries.
Geisinger Lewistown Hospital received the distinction for knee and hip replacements as well as spine surgeries, a news release states.
Also recognized were Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital and Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, who were recognized for knee and hip replacement surgeries. Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center achieved the designation for spine surgeries.
The Blue Distinction designation is a national recognition awarded by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and given to hospitals and providers that demonstrate expertise in delivering high-quality specialty care leading to better outcomes for patients.
To receive the distinction, hospitals must demonstrate quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient results. These centers have lower complications and fewer hospital readmissions and reoperations.
