Councilman Steve Knudson resigns
Council reorganizes
LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council met Monday to reorganize and to discuss council member Steve Knudson’s resignation.
The borough council added council member Steve Knudson’s resignation to the new business agenda and later voted to accept the resignation in the absence of council member Larry Searer.
This emailed resignation letter read that Knudson resigned from his borough council seat due to ongoing health issues.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed serving the borough and I appreciate my time sitting with such a hard working team,” Knudson stated in the email.
“He’s a fixture in this community, and he’s really given his life to public service for the borough,” council member Scott Gutshall said.
Because the vacant seat must be filled within 30 days, the council voted to advertise the vacancy on the borough website at lewistownborough.com and to appoint a candidate at the board’s Jan. 26 meeting, which will be held at the Lewistown Community Center.
Council members also welcomed new member, Jacob Flood, who recently moved back to Lewistown with his wife and two children after a few years of studying at Penn State and living near the university.
“I’m excited to jump into things, and there’s a lot going on in the borough, so I’m excited to be involved,” Flood said.
Lisa Knudson, Gutshall, Searer, Robert Barlett and Matthew Moore remain council members.
The council voted to reappoint Moore to his seat as council president and Barlett to his seat as council vice president.
Council members reappointed Jim Fosselman as borough manager, Somer Weiss as borough treasurer, Mark Remy, Esquire, from the Law Offices of Knepp and Snook as solicitor, and EADS Group of Lewistown as the borough engineers.
Further council meeting information will be published in a later edition of The Sentinel.
