Huskies wallop Falcons, 83-54
LEWISTOWN -- Mifflin County boys basketball opened 2026 in grand style, defeating Mid-Penn Conference foe Lower Dauphin, 83-54, in the Dawg Pound on Monday night.
It was a dominant showing for the Huskies, as the victors netted 14 triples in the win.
Junior Jack Curry shined again with 26 points, which is his fourth game this season with 20 or more points. He also drilled seven threes.
Fellow junior Zach Keller was also hot for the Huskies, scoring 16, while Luke Bender added 12 off the bench.
Huskies coach Wade Curry said, "The process is the same for us win or lose. We’re going back into the gym tomorrow and we’ll continue to work on finer points. And our focus the next couple days will certainly be on defense. Offensively, we shot the ball very well with 14 threes and got scoring out of a lot of different guys on the floor but we’ve got to work on our defensive rotations. But I felt like this was definitely a step in the right direction. It was great to see a lot of different guys getting on the scoreboard tonight and particularly we had some guys play roles stronger. We've been talking as a team about developing into your role in the team. A lot of talents just getting time to gel and play consistently."
Lower Dauphin had shooters in the game and got good looks. Colin Shaffer, despite being in foul trouble by picking up four fouls in just the third quarter, led in scoring with 15 points. Isaac Medlin was second in scoring with 11 Falcons points.
Curry was the star of the game and so were his teammates as the Huskies got production up and down the lineup. Josh Hartzler was solid in the paint by scoring eight points on the night. Zach Keller also knocked down four triples in the win, putting together a 16-point performance.
Husky Jack Curry said, "We have to keep the energy up in practice the next couple of days... We keep building off this going into Thursday when we play Mechanicsburg and play the same way we came into this game and stay focused."
The JV Huskies also got the win, using a strong second half to defeat the Falcons, 58-33.
Sophomore Dylan Bonson shined with 24 points, his third straight game with over 20 points. Freshman Luke Warfel had a season-high 16.
The Huskies are back over .500 at 6-5 and play again on Thursday night when they welcome Mechanicsburg.
