Janice Elaine Moist, 86, of Belleville, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, at her home.

Born July 12, 1939, in Vira, Elaine was the daughter of the late Dewey Bingman and Bertha (Berrier) Bingman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard D. Moist and her sister, Arlene Mertz.

Elaine is survived by her son, Kevin M. Moist, and wife, Jennifer Streb, of State College, and her nephew, Nelson Mertz, and wife, Dee, of Chambersburg, Pa.

She was a graduate of Chief Logan High School, class of 1956, and attended Central Pennsylvania Business School.

Elaine was deeply involved with Vira United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served as the church organist for more than six decades.

Elaine dedicated many years of service to Prudential Insurance, ultimately concluding her career as the office manager.

She loved reading, doing puzzles, sewing and needlework and playing music. Elaine was a great cook and a world class baker. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Len. Their adventures took them to many beautiful destinations in the U.S. and Europe, where they created lasting memories together.

A receiving of friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 200 N Main St., Lewistown. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Josh Randolph officiating. Interment will take place at Vira Methodist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elaine’s memory to Vira U.M.C., 111 Long Lane, Lewistown, PA 17044.
