LEWISTOWN — Local nonprofit Faith’s House of Hope will host a gingerbread house decorating workshop benefitting St. John’s Daycare and Preschool programs on Friday at The Square Cafe and Bakery.
Lisa Bollinger Miller, the founder of Faith’s House of Hope, said that her daughter Faith, who is the organization’s namesake, attended St. John’s Summer School Age Program. Miller aims to provide others with the same opportunities Faith received for social and emotional development in a welcoming atmosphere.
A cookie sale will be held 5:30 p.m. on Friday at 10 W. Market St. Decorating kits cost $5 each. The funds from the sale help Faith’s House of Hope continue the remaining workshops.
The workshops after first Friday in Lewistown are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Hungry Run Distillery in Lewistown, 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 18 at East End Coffee Co. in Lewistown, and 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 22 at United Methodist Church in McVeytown.
Kits cost $20 each at these three events; check the Faith’s House of Hope Facebook page for updates.

Anyone can sponsor this event by mailing their payment to Faith’s House of Hope corporate partner United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, notated with Attn: FHOH – St. Johns, at the address 13 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Registration for the gingerbread house competition will be included with the $20 kits, or participants may enter their own gingerbread houses by paying $20.
Rules and registration forms will be posted on Faith’s House of Hope Facebook page.
A vote will be held to determine businesses and service providers’ winning gingerbread houses and families and individuals’ winning gingerbread houses. Any participant may enter this competition.
Winners will be determined at the Festival of Ice on Dec. 4 and 5. The first-place winner in the businesses and service providers category receives a traveling trophy, and those in the families and individuals category receive prizes dependent upon donations.
The funds from this year’s workshops and past gingerbread workshop events have all supported organizations that make a difference in children’s lives.
The first gingerbread workshops honoring one of Faith’s favorite pastimes began in 2021.
“We do this all in honor of Faith’s memory,” Miller said.
Miller said that Faith’s House of Hope became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in May 2025, which allows the organization to expand what it can do for agencies.
This designation grants the organization federal tax-exempt status.
“It’s a lot of paperwork and a lot of patience,” Miller said.
