‘Spook-tacular’ events to haunt your Halloween season

Halloween is slowly creeping in, and that means finding the spookiest events to fill your October calendar.

Local communities throughout the Juniata River Valley have a range of activities planned that are sure to keep you on your toes whether you’re looking for a scare or just seasonal fun. Here’s a round-up of can’t-miss Halloween events.

Parades:

• McVeytown Lions Club Halloween parade will take place today at 6:30 p.m.;

• Thompsontown Halloween costume parade will run its course on Oct. 25. Check-in starts at 3 p.m. near the corner of Ridge Street and Evergreen Street with the parade beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 5 p.m.;

• Lewistown Halloween parade will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m.

Trick or Treating:

• Lewistown’s safe night trick or treating is scheduled for Oct. 24 in Downtown Lewistown from 5 to 7 p.m.;

• Newton Hamilton Borough, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 6 to 7 p.m.,

• Mount Union, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 6 to 7 p.m.;

• Derry Township, Thursday, Oct. 30, 6 to 8 p.m.;

• Granville Township, Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.;

• Juniata Terrace, Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.;

• Oliver Township, Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.;

• Lewistown, Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.;

• Burnham Borough, Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.;

• Brown Township, Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.;

• Armagh Township, Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Hayride:

-Norman’s Woods- Every Friday from dusk until 10 p.m. and every Saturday from dusk until 11 p.m. in October at the New Lancaster Valley Firehouse there will be a haunted hayride/walk. There is a $5 admission fee; kids five and under are free;

-On Oct. 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. there will be a haunted hayride at the Bannerville Fire Company. Adult admission is $10, ages 13 to 17 are $8, ages 5 to 12 are $6 and kids under five are free.

Trunk or Treat:

-On Oct. 21 from 6 to 7 p.m., Mifflin County High School faculty parking lot;

-The third annual Haunted Tent & Trunk or Treat, Middle Road Speedway, 1904 Middle Road, Lewistown at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24;

-Krawl Works on Electric Ave, Saturday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 5 p.m.;

-Thompsontown Volunteer Fire Company, Oct. 25, 5 to 8 p.m.;

-Krawl Works, 305 S. Logan Boulevard, Oct. 25, 1 to 5 p.m. There will also be local vendors and a petting zoo;

-Evangel Baptist Church, Oct. 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 375 W. 5th Street in Lewistown;

Church of the Open Door, Evendale Park, 3191 Middle Road, Richfield, Oct. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m.;

-First Baptist Church, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. It will be held in the church’s parking lot;

-East Waterford Carnival Grounds, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Fall Fest and Halloween Parties:

-Valley View Retirement Community’s annual fall fest will be on Oct. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be hayrides, festive food, and games;

-The Mifflintown Harvest Fest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 3 to 7 p.m. in Myers Park. There will be a hot dog roast, apple cider, hot chocolate, games, Halloween music and a pumpkin decorating contest;

-Brookmere Winery & Vineyard Inn will be hosting a “Spook-tacular” Halloween party on Oct. 24 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at brookmerewine.com;

-Fall Family Fun Fest at Basom Park in Richfield will be held on Oct. 25 from noon to 3 p.m. There will be hayrides and kids activities from 12:30 to 3 p.m. and an annual costume contest at 2 p.m. Food will be available for purchase;

-Mountain View Chapel will be hosting its annual Fall Fest on Oct. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be food, games, pumpkin painting, a petting zoo, prizes and more;

-Lewistown Elks Lodge Halloween Party from 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 25. $10 advance tickets are on sale at the Elks Lodge and tickets will be $15 on the day of the event.
