Apple Festival set for Saturday

REEDSVILLE — The community of Reedsville is gearing up for its ninth annual Apple Festival.

The festivities begin at 9 a.m. at Bender Park in Reedsville but for the hard working volunteers the festivities begin much sooner, according to organizers, who explained the apple butter-making begins the night before.

“The kettles are started around 8 to 9 p.m. on Friday evening with volunteers stirring constantly all night long,” says Jo Ann Smith, event organizer.

Loren Kauffman is in charge of the four kettles of boiling apples that will become delicious finished apple butter early Saturday, she said.

This boiling mixture must be stirred throughout Friday night so the apple butter is ready to serve on Saturday.

Attendees visiting Bender Park can expect to see the children’s activities like face painting and games, along with pony rides.

The event also includes 30 craft vendors that will line the park. Food vendors will provide various items such as cheesesteaks, fries, smash burgers. Festivalgoers can also expect coffee drinks and other treats available as well.

The Reedsville Community Association stand will have the apple butter, caramel apples and flowers.

Live music from a local band plays to entertain all in the center of the park.

Little Miss Reedsville will be crowned at 11 a.m. and the Apple Pie Baking contest winner announced at noon.

Coats for Waylon will offer a kids’ craft.

The festival runs until 2 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
