Reedsville Park parking lot may expand thanks to grant
REEDSVILLE — The Brown Township Board of Supervisors signed and approved their attentive CDBG 2025 Project, effectively certifying it for the application process.
The board has decided to move forward with the expansion of the parking lot across from the Reedsville Park located on Walnut Street.
According to Carol Kearney High, the Project Coordinator, the application will be submitted in October of this year, but a decision will not be made by SEDA-COG until next summer, most likely.
In that timespan, the board will need to gather proof of ownership before the project itself can begin.
“My suggestion is that if (the expanded parking lot) is your top priority, that we move forward with that, because it is still the application process and you have time to get things in order,” shared Kearney High. “And if, for some reason, it doesn’t work out, then we would ask for a modification and submit a different project.”
Kearny High has said that she has a meeting set up with an engineer at PennDOT that will guide them through the process but at this time it is a “chicken and egg thing” as the project had not yet been approved meaning the capacity of the project is still unknown.
To complete the application, all that is needed is a cost estimate for the construction of the parking lot, not including whatever will need to be done for a crosswalk eventually.
When that time comes, there will be a road survey done to determine what type of safety crossing would need to be placed for pedestrians.
In other business the board:
• Rejected three bids for the 2025 road project and reopened the bidding;
