Police standoff shuts down streets

LEWISTOWN — Officers were called to 27 Chestnut Street at around 8:20 pm Thursday evening for reports of a person barricaded in their home with a gun.
Officers from Lewistown Borough Police Department responded to the area and set up a one-block perimeter and evacuated residents in the area.
Local fire police were also called to the area and closed off Chestnut Street from Dorcas Street to Logan Street, East Market Street from Brown Street to Dorcas Street, Valley Street from Dorcas Street to West Third Street and Dorcas Street from North Plaza Drive to South Plaza Drive. According to the Mifflin County Office of Public Safety, officers had the suspect in custody at around 11: 10 p.m. and the roads were reopened by about 11:30 p.m.
Lewistown Borough Police were assisted at the scene by Granville Township Police, Mifflin County Regional Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, FAME EMS and local fire police. Heritage Fire Co and City Hook and Ladder Ladder both hand firefighters standing by in station during the incident.
