Penn State Extension offers group-based strength training program
BOALSBURG — Penn State Extension will offer a group-based strength training program for adults ages 40 and above. “Lifelong Improvements Through Fitness Together” is aimed at improving functional fitness, or the ability to perform daily activities with ease.
The 8-week course will be every Monday and Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. beginning Sept. 3, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 105 Old Boalsburg Road, Boalsburg.
Through moderated training exercises and basic nutrition information, participants will work toward achieving their personal goals in a group setting. The program is designed to improve strength, posture and flexibility, as well as emphasize the benefits of a healthy diet.
Participants can register through Sept. 1. The registration fee of $60 covers the cost of the full 8-week program.

Nittany Valley Writers
Network will meet Sept. 9
STATE COLLEGE — The Nittany Valley Writers Network will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in Schlow Library’s Community Room, 211 S. Allen St., State College. Author and graphic designer L. Bossi will speak on self-publishing and creating her trilogy of fully illustrated high fantasy novels – The Piri Project: Exordium, Nadir, and Apotheosis. She will share her process for illustrating books from concept to creation, explain the process of self-publishing, and hold a book-signing.
