Penn State Extension workshop to cover mycotoxin management in corn
UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State Extension will offer an opportunity to earn pesticide applicator recertification credits during the Mycotoxin Management in Corn workshop, slated for Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Garlind, 716 Swamp Rd., Mifflintown.
The workshop is designed for grain and corn silage producers, crop advisors, grain processors and livestock producers. Presenters will discuss pathways for mycotoxin introduction and development in corn and in-field scouting to determine fungicide and harvest management considerations.
The workshop will cover:
• How grain quality affects market value and why grain discounts are applied.
• The most common fungi that produce mycotoxins.
• Key corn diseases linked to mycotoxin contamination.
• Agronomic practices to reduce disease and mycotoxin risk.
• How different mycotoxins impact animal health, including species-specific concerns.
Pesticide recertification credits are available for attendees. Participants can earn four credits in each of the following categories: private category, 01 and 18.
Penn State Extension offers this event at no charge, and lunch is included. Organizers ask that participants register by 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 25.
